Jackdaw

An Aladdin's Cave to explore!

Taking a step inside this cute little shop is like entering into Aladdin's Cave, where you cannot fail to be amazed at the first impression which feels more like a Middle Eastern Bazaar than a little shop in sunny Sidmouth! You can also wonder at the sheer range and variety of fascinating things for sale.

"Jackdaw is pleased to support artisans from Nepal, Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Laos and India, promoting the principals of fair trade.  We travel to all these countries and our suppliers are local people who make and sell their products to us direct.  We try to lower the impact of carbon waste by flying out just twice a year and by travelling overland whenever possible."

Our goods are fairly priced, yet still remarkably affordable, and each purchase helps to support families in areas which are often quite poor.  We sell a range of beautifully crafted goods from hand-woven scarves to gorgeous lanterns made from re-cycled metal.  There really is something for everyone in our little shop, with prices from 50p to £100.  You don’t know the meaning of warmth until you have snuggled up in a yak hair blanket or a pair of felted slippers from Nepal.

The shop is run by Sidmouth local Jo Molyneux and it has taken her some considerable time to find the right goods from the right sources to create just the atmosphere that she was looking for. Thankfully, Jo has succeeded and the end result is a shop where you can find something very different. Whether you are looking for a Christmas or birthday present, or perhaps just something a little different, then pop into Jackdaw and you'll be amazed!
